Ernest Dollar, City of Raleigh Museum

We talked to Ernest about the role of museums and historians, some of his favorite exhibits, and whether he's ever felt like Indiana Jones in an effort to track down a Raleigh artifact.

Tune in to hear about the state of museums, what happens to all the artifacts that are collected, how technology has expanded the reach of museums, and what's coming near future in terms of telling the story of Raleigh, its people, and its history.

    Meg Paradise, Umbrella Dry Bar

    Meg Paradise, Umbrella Dry Bar

Meg Paradise has nothing against the Raleigh bar scene. Far from it! She was an enthusiastic participant in Raleigh's nightlife, but when she became pregnant, she gained a new perspective on what life without alcohol might look like. Meg went from a fear of missing out, to wondering if a healthier (but still fun) lifestyle was possible.

A lot of thinking and dreaming later, and she was developing spirit free-cocktails, serving them from a shack in a garden center.

Today we chat with Meg, from The Commons in the Wells Fargo building, about her journey that will now have her taking over the former Garland spot in downtown Raleigh!

Terrance Ruth is one of those people in Raleigh who seems to be everywhere at all times. He's been a public school teacher and administrator, a college professor, a policy evaluator, a foundation founder, and a mayoral candidate. But how would he describe himself?  First and foremost, a student of the community.

Today we talk about policy and politics, where the two align, and also where they don't.  Plus what can we do in the Raleigh community to truly make a difference at the local level?

Ashton and Hayes work great together

Ashton and Hayes get great guests to come on the show, and then they let their guests talk, they know what questions to ask and when to not ask anything at all

Love the episode with Coach Moton!

I have admired Coach Moton since he was at West Millbrook Middle School. The pace is great, the format is great. Well rounded topics. This was my first episode so the bar is pretty high for me, but I am sure Ashton and Hayes can keep hitting it.

Keeping tabs on my hometown from afar

Really enjoy Podcast Raleigh, as it highlights community news and happenings. Raleigh is where I grew up, was educated, and cut my teeth career-wise. Now living on the west coast, Ashton and Hayes keep me up to speed on the scoop and provide insight from many of the leaders moving the city forward. Couple ideas for future shows:

1. Gotta delve more into the college sports rivalries that define triangle water cooler talk. Maybe around March madness?
2. Ernie from the city museum. Let him talk history about the capital city.
3. Greenway planner - the Raleigh Greenway system is a treasure by national standards.

Keep up the great work!
