- Education
-
This podcast focuses on issues with our current education system and ways we can empower students, educators, and anyone who cares about education. Shouldn’t people be put before profits? Shouldn’t our children be educated to grow and learn instead of being treated like the means to the financial gain of those in power? If you agree with this so called “radical” and “revolutionary” perspective, you’ve come to the right place! Join educators Gord Milstone and John Battalion as they call out systemic problems and discuss how we can break down barriers in the educational system.

77 - Revolutionary Education - A conversation with Reclaim Party School Facilitators in collaboration with the Little Red School House
On this episode, Gord gets to chat with members and facilitators of The Party For Reclamation and Survival Party School.
We discuss topics surrounding how their classes are set up and how they are facilitated, along with the topics they covered, comparing them to more conventional classroom structures and learning methods.
We go onto discuss methods that radical educators within the system might engage their students in a dialectic learning experience through engaging in questions and context-building stories to help better understand concepts and ideas.

Great pod
This is perfect for leftist educators
Heartening and useful
As an educator so deeply entrenched in capitalism it is so heartening to hear these two teachers reflect the things that I see every day yet are so often left unsaid. I am in love with the idea of a worker-owned cooperative school and look forward to seeing the idea continue to develop and grow into something substantive and material. Education is so often where theory and praxis meet and I’m so glad there are leftist teachers out there looking for ways to help improve education for all!
I think having more diverse voices discuss things would bring a new level
I enjoyed that these are topics that are not talked about much. It’s worth listening to! Just keep in mind everything they say is true about the US is NOT true in all schools. Also, MANY cultures in the US do NOT want their kids using first names for teachers so you have to respect that diversity.
And some speakers often label dismissively label people and attribute motives to people I don’t agree with because as have been in school reform for much longer and there is more to it. One comment that really saddened me was the comment that public education is a lost cause. That seems a view that will only feed apathy and support the Devoss’s of this world who want to privatize everything.
PS. Harvard has done lots of great research on collaborative leadership. Check it out.
