    In this episode, originally recorded in May 2019, Rachel and Elena discuss Rachel's work as a legal advocate for survivors of domestic violence and her plans to become an attorney. Today, Rachel has just finished her second year of law school at Seattle University and begun a summer internship with the ACLU of Washington. Rachel says that law school has been really rigorous and challenging, that she’s had some spectacular professors at SU, and that she has grown a lot in her understanding of how the law and lawyering can be used to cultivate a more just and equitable world.

    In this episode, originally recorded in summer 2019, Nate talks about moving from Arlington, Virginia to the Pacific Northwest for college and playing Ultimate Frisbee with the Postmen, Puget Sound's men team. He and Elena also chat about the independent research he was conducting that summer. Since graduating, Nate has been working with Americorps restoring streambeds, replacing invasive plants with native ones, and creating salmon habitat all around Pierce County. In August he’ll start an Honours Program at the University of Sydney – as in, Australia! – to spend a year researching the impacts of oyster aquaculture on estuaries.

    Professor Alisa Kessel joins Elena to explain what it means to study political theory, and share her thoughts on democracy in the present moment and the role of the individual and the collective in the democratic process.
