After completing Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, Andrea Davies takes a position at a large New York Advertising Firm, admittedly there to find a husband and secure a life as a well-to-do, country club socialite. Andrea meets Richard Hayes, one of the firm's partners and an inexplicable attraction takes hold. To everyone Richard is the kind and respectful executive with tragic home life. He is the devoted husband to Margaret, a dangerous "lunatic" who is in and out of psychiatric hospitals. A passionate attraction between Richard and Andrea intensifies when she is promoted to his secretary. When Andrea turns her attention to another marriage prospect, Richard quickly reveals a sinister, unpredictable side that naive Andrea interprets as unbridled passion, fueling her romantic delusions of "love at any cost."The Diarist, explores the darker side of the human psyche and the terrifying consequences of indulging in base desires in 1950s America. Ep. 1 - The Promotion
Due to Technical Difficulties, this is an upload to replace previously published Episode 1.
Psychological drama. A chilling thriller set in 1950s NYC Advertising . Hailed as "if Hitchock had written a love story" (Geek Girl Authority) and "runner up for best dark workplace drama" (Radio Public). Andrea Davies, an ambitious secretary, introduces us to Roth, Hayes, and Johnson Advertising. We meet Richard Hayes, a partner and object of Andrea's infatuation. Mother grills Andrea about the eligible bachelors over lunch. Andrea is surprised by a promotion that brings her closer to Richard. -
Ep. 2 - Meeting Mrs. Margaret Hayes
Months have passed in her new position and Andrea's confidence is soaring. She likes campaign work AND making sure things run smoothly for Richard. One evening Andrea drops Richard's dry cleaning at his apartment. As she nears the door, Andrea hears screams and calamity from inside. Andrea comes face to face with a living ghost -Richard's wife Margaret Hayes. When Richard hints at feelings "beyond work" Andrea panics.

Ep 3 - Handsome Steven Morris
Andrea is confused by her interactions with Richard Hayes. He's turned cold and criticizes every little thing she does. After a particularly cruel interaction she begins to contemplate her future and her feelings. Then, a little bird tells her that the new art director, handsome Steven Morris is interested in her. This is a game changer.

Ep 4 - Charming Steven Morris
Steven Morris is everything a girl could wish for:handsome, charming, and forward thinking. He has just the upbringing Mother has been wanting for Andrea. Steven has been interested in Andrea for quite a while. While embers of passion still burn for Richard Hayes, Andrea can see an altogether happier life with a man like Steven Morris.

unbelievably addictive!!!!
this show stands out as a super stylized- twisted take on the 1950s advertising culture trope!!! the main characters devolve morally as they “surrender “ to their erotic attraction. yet their stir is a story within a story with the “lunatic wife” at home, a harbinger for the naive secretary’s fate. the cast of characters are brought to life by incredible performances and i promise you’ll be absorbed in the soundscape and sometimes chilling plot. gaslight much?
Unsatisfactory ending
So much plot, suspense, buildup… for what?! absolutely nothing
First the good- the plot was intriguing. The setting was interesting. The voice acting was great. It was so easy to binge this series. The author did a great job weaving the story together but the end is a frayed mess.
I really started to get annoyed with the plot but stuck with it for two reasons (potential spoiler) the author said by episode 10 it would turn more Hitchcock in tone. Then when Margaret read Andreas palm and said she would leave Richard I thought this would be an empowerment story. Sold
It’s not…. It’s a woman we are told is smart but who can’t even finish a thought or sentence when her man is around. UGH! And in the last minute you’re telling me it’s a ghost? No redemption? No justice? There are no twists (spoiler unless you count and almost drowned out account of Margaret’s baby being her sisters that you can barely hear), just a woman falling into the exact same pit that she was warned about.
I don’t understand the 5 stars. Do people find this sexy? Honestly tuned out during the confusing audio overlapping sex scenes to try and imagine the point of the plot (to which there is none).
Bad production
This series seemed like it would be great. Sadly the titles don’t match, the intros don’t match, too much dead air that you have to check if the episode is finished. The constant “I love you” seems like a sub for lack of ideas to put into words. Very disappointed in this and I’m not even sure I had the ending since everything is misaligned.
