The Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast launched in 2018 as a way to present and discuss the albums in the Record of the Month program at the Blind Tiger Record Club. Over the years, as both the podcast and the record club have grown and developed, the Podcast has gone through many changes.

Through the years, the episode format and topics have expanded and changed. The primary focus has always been on all the albums in the Record of the Month program at B.T.R.C., which are all current releases on vinyl. Over time, however, the albums discussed on various episodes began to include the club's Spotlight Albums, New Store Additions, and Headbangers, as well as Special Event episodes including holiday specials, our annual "Best Vinyl of the Year" episode, and the LP Interview segments with featured guest artists and producers.

In the summer of 2020, The Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast joined the special programming lineup of WRLT, 100.1 MHz (Lightning 100) - an adult album alternative-formatted FM radio (Triple A) station in Nashville, Tennessee. The show was called, the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast On Air. Between 2020 and 2022, On Air was on the radio every other Monday from 8pm CST - 9PM CST

We are now in Season Six of the B.T.R.C. Podcast with over 100 episodes recorded. Show host and B.T.R.C. founder David W. Williams has lead panel discussions on newly released vinyl for all six seasons. These panel discussions have included many guests that range from artists, managers, and producers, to other members of the music industry in Nashville.

Williams has also been joined by several co-host's through six seasons of the podcast. The current co-hosts are industry management veteran Kevin Lee and B.T.R.C. Creative Manager Jonathan Hibma. In the Spring of 2023, Williams and Hibma launched a spinoff show called the B.T.R.C. Headbangers Podcast with the obvious focus being on vinyl releases from the hard rock and metal genres featured in the Blind Tiger Record Clubs Headbangers program. Make sure you check that show out as well.

The Current B.T.R.C. Podcast episode formats fall in one of these five categories:

1) "The Club Episode" (used to be called the "The Forty Five") - On these episodes we discuss the Records of the Month released each month at BlindTigerRecordClub.com plus the monthly B.T.R.C. Spotlight Album. We currently cover all five albums in the monthly episode, usually released on the second Monday of the month. We play several song clips and discuss things ranging from song writing, producers, featured guest artists, to many other topics that relate to the specific artists and albums. It's a great way to hear new music and learn about the new and reissued releases.
2) "Spotlight, New Store Additions, and Headbangers" - This episode segment has merged or been dropped. The Headbangers segment has spun off its own monthly podcast. Search B.T.R.C. Headbangers Podcast to learn more about the new show.
3) "The LP Interview" - Guest panelists include artists, producers, songwriters, and managers directly related to the creation of a specific album and artist being discussed. While the focus is on the most recently released album from the artist we are discussing, the guest panelist talks about their career and perspective on art, culture, and the creative process of the music. We do take a deeper dive on the current album, but we often look at previous releases as well and really create a linear story of the artists career highlights, paying clips from many previous releases and important milestones, all told from the guest's perspective.
4) "The B-Sides" - Sometimes when we have guest panelists on for the LP Interview segments, we get a lot of extra "talk". When we edit our episodes down, we try to focus the interview on the album we are discussing. Many times, we discuss much more and that is all dropped in the B-Sides.
5) "Special Events" - Throughout the year we have several "Special Event" episodes. They s

S5: November Records of the Month - Bonny Light Horseman, Train, Lee Fields, and ZZ Top

On this episode of the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast, David W. Williams and Kevin Lee discuss the Blind Tiger Record Club's November Records of the Month.

We discuss all four styles of the B.T.R.C. Records of the Month - Singer Songwriter, Rock & Alternative, Jazz Soul & Blues, and Classics.  We talk about new releases and reissues from Bonny Light Horseman, Train, Lee Fields, and ZZ Top.  The albums from these artists are discussed and clips of songs from the albums are played.

We discuss the return of Eric D. Johnson, Anais Mitchell, and Josh Kaufman to the Bonny Light Horseman line up.  We also discuss the major differences between Bonny Light Horseman's  Rolling Golden Honey and their 2020 self-titled, Grammy Award Nominated album, and how this new release really makes the trio an actual "band" versus a side project.  We talk about Train's AM Gold and how strange this release has been from its Billboard numbers to its absence at Triple A radio, even though the band has a long history at the format.  We talk about the fact that Pat Monohan is a really strong frontman, but is also the only original member of the band still in Train.  We dive into traditional soul artist Lee Fields new solo album, Sentimental Fool.  We discuss the fact that this is his first album without the Expressions in twenty years.  We also talk about producer Gabriel Roth, and how he co-owns Dap-tone Records and performed and produced Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings for twenty years.   We cover ZZ Top's1983 release, Eliminator, and how it moved the band from blues based boogie rock to a more mainstream, synth driven, new wave rock.  We also discuss the important branding decisions made with Billy Gibbons and Bill Ham to include Gibbon's 1933 Ford Coupe in all the album's marketing and several music videos.

We also briefly discuss Taylors Swift's new Billboard record shattering new album, Midnights, and how well the album and her lead single, "Anti-hero" has done.

S5: October Records of the Month - Trapper Haskins, Muse, GA-20, and Journey

On this episode of the Blind Tiger Record Club Podcast, David W. Williams and Kevin Lee kick off the fall with a discussion of the Blind Tiger Record Club's October Records of the Month.

We discuss all four styles of the B.T.R.C. Records of the Month - Singer Songwriter, Rock & Alternative, Jazz Soul & Blues, and Classics.  Normally, each style would have its own club episode, but this month, we have them all combined in one show.

We discuss new releases and reissues from Trapper Haskins, Muse, GA-20, and Journey.  The albums from these artists are discussed and clips of songs from the albums are played.  We talk about a very special album, Blood In The Honey, By Trapper Haskins and how unique the production and arrangements are on this album.  You can catch our LP Interview with Trapper Haskins on October 24th and listen to Haskins tell us all about vintage baseball, boatmaking, and the writing and production of this album.  We also discuss Will of the People by Muse and how visual the album is even though it's not officially a concept album.  We talk about GA-20's Crackdown, the duo's follow up to 2019's Lonely Soul.  We discuss the groups traditional blues, country, and rock influence and how the pair are really "blues revivalist".  The last album we discuss is the epic classic rock album, Escape (E5C4P3), by Journey, celebrating over 40 years since its release.  We cover the albums chart positioning worldwide and the singles.  We talk about the importance of "Open Arms" to the "power ballad" at pop radio and how incredible Steve Perry's vocals are on this Journey album in particular..  We also talk about how the album was produced by former Lynyrd Skynyrd's sound engineer, Kevin Elson and Queen engineer Mike Stone as well as the role played by Jonathan Cain who replaced Gregg Rolie on keyboards for this album.  We also discuss the biggest song of the 20th century - "Don't Stop Believin'" and how it competes for downloads with a certain song by Survivor - much to that band's chagrins.

We also briefly discuss U2 and Bono's new book and book tour,  Surrender: 40 Songs.  We also discuss a very important milestone achieved by Apple Music and how some songs still penetrate the larger culture like "I Ain't Worried" by One Republic.
