#240 Why Fasting, Meal Timing and Real Food matters with Dr Sarah Berry, PhD RNutr & Chief Scientist at ZOE

#240 Why Fasting, Meal Timing and Real Food matters with Dr Sarah Berry, PhD RNutr & Chief Scientist at ZOE

Today we have an awesome episode covering a ton of topics that you always ask me about including meal timing, protein, diet for the menopause, whether chickpea pasta is the same as whole chickpeas. There’s a ton of useful information in todays podcast, but more importantly, I just love the honesty in todays conversation.
Dr Sarah Berry is an Associate Professor at King’s College London and has run more than 30 human nutrition studies. She’s the lead nutritional scientist for the ZOE PREDICT study — the and leads research across menopause, microbiome and sleep.
You can also catch me and Dr Sarah in the Doctor’s Kitchen Studio talking about snacking and which snacks are better than others, plus whether there is an actual difference between refined sugar, coconut sugar, agave, honey and raw honey. You can catch that on our YouTube channel where you can also watch the podcast!

#239 Should you eat Honey every day?

#239 Should you eat Honey every day?

Honey has been used for millennia as a medicine. And even to this day, people swear by it for treating viral illnesses, espousing the antibacterial and immune enhancing effects. But is there any evidence to support this? And if honey is largely made up of just sugar molecules, how can it have these miraculous effects?
Todays episode is a deep dive into what honey is, the chemical make up of honey and a look at some of the studies that have examined gut health, immunity and metabolic health benefits. I’ll reveal whether I think it’s worth taking a spoon of honey every day.
On another episode for YouTube I’m going to discuss how to choose the best honey, how to spot fake honey on supermarket shelves, as well as taste test different honeys available in supermarkets and online.

    Snacksize 10: Making Disease Optional

    Snacksize 10: Making Disease Optional

Todays Snacksize Doctor’s Kitchen podcast is all about breaking new concepts in personalised medicine and the speed of technological change that we should be adopting in healthcare.
I spoke with Momo and Naveen from Viome on episode 109 about the applications of personalised omics testing to prevent disease and making illness optional. A fascinating discussion in full and I love Momo’s explanation of why gene expression is an important concept to grasp, as well as how manipulating disease expression is one of the core tenants of what could make this technology work to improve health.

Bonus: “Capsule Pantrys” & unreasonably delicious food with Anna Jones

Bonus: “Capsule Pantrys” & unreasonably delicious food with Anna Jones

Anna Jones is on the podcast today, one of my absolute favourite cooks! Her food and ethos around injecting flavour are so aligned to my way of eating and it was a joy to host her on the pod.
Anna is a cook, writer and regarded as the voice of modern vegetarian cooking. She’s written favourites such as “One: Pot, Pan, Planet”, “A Modern Way to Eat” and many more that are always on a foodies kitchen counter.
In her latest book “Easy Wins”, Anna takes 12 hero ingredients that are guaranteed to make your food taste great, such as lemons, olive oil, onions, peanut butter, mustard, tahini. Most of you ‘Doctors Kitchen Foodies’ probably have these in your fridge or cupboards. And Anna has masterfully created meals that use them to boost the flavour and versatility of home cooking. The so called “Capsule Pantry”, which we explain at the start of the podcast is an awesome concept. And I’m going to start thinking about what would be in my own capsule pantry!
I hope you enjoy this wonderful conversation and you’ll be able to catch me cooking with Anna on our YouTube channel too!
