About Jesse Mac Cormack

Also known for his live interpretations of blues guitar repertoire, explorative Canadian songwriter/producer Jesse Mac Cormack made his label debut with a pair of ruminative, gently psychedelic EPs in 2015. The multi-instrumentalist expanded his textured acoustic-electronic sound with his third EP, 2016's After the Glow. In addition to working as a producer at the time, Cormack signed as a solo artist with Montreal-headquartered Secret City Records in 2015. They released his EPs Crush and Music for the Soul together that July, three months before issuing Emilie Kahn's pastoral harp album 10 000, which was produced by Cormack. That year, he also produced Rosie Valland's Partir Avant. Over the course of the next year, he toured his own music in support of alternative acts including Patrick Watson, Cat Power, Half Moon Run, and the Barr Brothers. Secret City released Crush and Music for the Soul together on vinyl in 2016, the same year they issued Cormack's third EP, the lusher After the Glow. He also appeared at that year's Montreal Jazz Festival. In 2017, Cormack arranged, recorded, and mixed Helena Deland's debut EP, Drawing Room, and returned to the Montreal Jazz Festival, this time with his take on the classics of blues great Muddy Waters. He went back in 2018 with a set of Stevie Ray Vaughan covers before releasing his first original material in two and a half years, the single "No Love Go," in early 2019. It appeared on Cormack's full-length debut, Now, which followed in May. ~ Marcy Donelson
