Halloween Live 1979-81

Halloween Live 1979-81

Should Rocky Erickson play one of his epic Halloween shows at a venue near you, drop all obligations and attend by any means necessary. Recorded at various California and Texas based Halloween shows, Roky and Austin’s The Explosives play with an uncanny chemistry that successfully blends the sideways psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll ramblings of the former 13th Floor Elevators frontman with a deep dish of driving sludge punctuated by The Explosives’ guitar wielding badass Cam King. There’s no better way to start the party than with fan favorite “Two Headed Dog” and since this was tracked in Rocky’s early 30s, the fragile rasp of his voice is at its peak, especially on those possessed yelps and howls heard on the satanic twist ‘n’ shout of  “Don’t Shake Me Lucifer.” The eight minute version of “Stand For The Fire Demon” rivals the studio recording, but “I Think Up Demons” is the belle of the ball — listen through the murky fidelity and you’ll hear a man who can only shake his demons by rocking them.
