Reckless

Reckless

Jeremy Camp reasserts his credentials as a Christian singer/songwriter with Reckless. The Indiana-born artist draws on the New Testament book of Acts for inspiration, asserting the need for both spiritual courage and humility while celebrating God’s all-embracing love. Camp’s near-baritone vocals retain their mix of passion and gravitas as he delivers such anthems of faith as "We Need,” “The Way You Love Me," and the title track. Andy Dodd’s widescreen production counterpoints stately pianos with pumping bass lines and thunderous drums, keeping the sound compatible with both Christian radio and corporate worship settings. Contrasting images of conflict and healing, yearning and release maintain the drama throughout. Musically, highlights include “Come Alive” (wrapping a promise of healing in skeins of strings), “We Must Remember” (a U2-esque track recounting Christ’s sacrifice), and the album closer, “Without You” (an expression of total devotion combining acoustic and electronic elements). Reckless is at once an act of defiance and a call to surrender, delivered with deep conviction by one of Christian music’s most compelling voices.
