Fact and fiction mix in FOUR DAUGHTERS, the Oscar-nominated documentary from the award-winning filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania. Ben Hania chronicles the true story of Olfa Hamrouni, a Tunisian woman and mother to four daughters. Her two elder daughters, Ghofrane and Rahma, have fled to Libya to join the Islamic State, while her two younger daughters, Eya and Tayssir, remain. The director introduces two professional actors to fill the daughters’ absence, recreate their lives, and tell the family story of how they got to where they are today. What emerges is a boldly inventive device that renews the language of reality in documentary and gives life to brave and complicated women.
