Podcasts within a podcast! As part of our ongoing celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the ordination of women in Community of Christ, we’re bringing back some excellent interviews with some of the first women to have been ordained as featured in “Women’s Rights.” These podcasts were written, edited and produced by students of David Howlett, scholar of religion in America and professor at Smith College in Northampton, MA, and originally aired in 2020. This episode is a combination of two of those podcasts: Congregational Ministry and Denominational Ministry.

702 | Coffee to Go | Fourth Sunday of Easter

Could it be that Christianity drew some of its images from surrounding culture?  Of course! Not only could it, it did! And, the Good Shepherd seems to be one of those images. How else might we know what Jesus meant by using “good” as a descriptor here in today’s passage?  Join hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith for this week’s Coffee to Go, as they encourage listeners to identify images and characteristics in today’s culture that serve as guides for the journey of discipleship.

166 | A Journey Toward Ordination | Women in Community of Christ | Becky Savage Pt. II (RE-POST)

Community of Christ’s journey toward ordination of women began long before 1984 and Section 156 of the Doctrine and Covenants. The fact is that women have had significant roles in the Christian movement since its inception.  But, that didn’t make things easier for trailblazers like Marietta Walker, Catherine Westward, and Marge Troeh.  These women stand among many who have worked tirelessly to accept that, indeed, All Are Called. Join host Brittany Mangelson and the first woman to serve in Community of Christ’s First Presidency, Becky Savage, for part two of Women’s Journey Toward Ordination in Community of Christ.

FranCanJourney ,

Thank you for this ministry!

I love listening to the Project Zion podcasts as I travel. It helps me feel like I am more connected to the World Church... that I know something of the people and their personalities (and their lovely humanness) from what they share in these interviews. They are a great ministry tool to share with others on a particular topic (like the one about CofC culture) and I learn much from them, too. (Loving the Godshot series) They have often left me with lingering thoughts. I’m still thinking about the more recent one concerning the sacraments and how we interpret their meanings in our world today perhaps a bit differently than in the past. Thank you for all the work that must go into producing them... they are enjoyed! I wore my Project Zion Podcast T-shirt to PT this week hoping someone there would ask about it... not yet... but who knows? ;)
