This will be a daily posting of my trip through the Bible. I will be reading the NET aloud. Each day I will introduce the passage with a brief commentary. But mostly I will simply be reading the Word of God for you.

I'd love to hear how God is using this podcast to help you or answer any questions you may have. You can contact me on twitter: @nemoyatpeace or email me at DevotedToScripture@gmail.com.

    #364 Closing Reflections

Hi, this is Danny Whittaker with “Devoted to Scripture”. We have journeyed through the Bible together over the past year..., and, now that our journey is complete, I want to share with you some of the things that I've learned and the challenges that God has helped me to overcome.

I don’t know where you are Spiritually, but, you have just listened to the entire Bible (and if you were keeping up, you did it in a year!)  Ask God to reveal to you how he wants you to spend your next year.  What is the next road in your journey?  Don’t let this accomplishment be a trophy that gathers dust, instead, let our journey through God’s holy word be a stepping block to help you reach something greater.  Spend time reflecting on the year that just passed and then reflecting on the year to come.  God has a great plan for you!

As you go, please let me know you’ve made it this far!  It means SO much to me when I hear from someone who has been listening.  How has my reading impacted you?  What do you feel like God is calling you to next?  How can I pray for you?  Email me at devotedtoScripture@gmail.com.

Lord Jesus, thank you so much for leading me to do this podcast this year.  Thank you even more for giving me the strength to accomplish it.  Thank you for the people who have listened.  Thank you for the way you have helped me to grow.  Thank you that you have a plan for each of us next year and a plan for how you are preparing us to be used into the future.  Help us to seek you daily!  Amen!

To all of you who have taken this journey with me, you are an immense blessing:  Be faithful followers of Jesus.  Be transformed by his Word.  Be a light unto the world.  Be bold and courageous.  And, as my brothers and sisters in Christ...my prayer for you is simply this: Be devoted to Scripture!

    https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+15-19/

This is day 362 of our journey.

Today, John tells us of the final seven plagues that fulfill the wrath of God on the earth.  Seven angels pour out seven bowls of wrath bringing destruction and devastation on all who refuse to bow to Christ.  After this, John is told of the destruction of Babylon, the great city of the world that causes all men to turn away from God.  Then, the celebration begins, the saints and angels in heaven rejoice at the greatness of God and the resurrected Christ as he prepares to go to war in the final battle to bring his bride to himself.

Join me in Revelation 15-19 and rejoice in the Salvation of our God and of his Christ!

    Key verses:

    Revelation 15:7
Then one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God who lives forever and ever,

    Revelation 16:7
Then I heard the altar reply, “Yes, Lord God, the All-Powerful, your judgments are true and just!”

    Revelation 17:1
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke to me. “Come,” he said, “I will show you the condemnation and punishment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters,

    Revelation 18:5
because her sins have piled up all the way to heaven and God has remembered her crimes.

    Revelation 19:7

Day 361 of the podcast, reading Revelation 10-14 NET, read along at:
    https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+10-14/

This is day 361 of our journey.

We continue to read John's visions from the island of Patmos.  Today we will read about a scroll that is bitter; two witnesses; the seventh trumpet and the praise that follows it; a pregnant woman and a dragon; Satan being cast down from heaven; two beasts ruling the earth; 144,000 witnesses praising God; and three angels with messages for the world.  These visions have been the source of many discussions and speculations about what the end of the world will look like but, until the day of the Lord occurs, no one will know precisely how to interpret all the symbols and signs given here.  As I read this, I am overwhelmed with a feeling of awe at the majesty of our God who has all things in his hands.  He will punish those that refuse to follow him and he will comfort those who are persecuted for his name.  In the end, he will reign on high over all people!

Join me in Revelation 10-14 and recognize the unsurpassable power of our great God!

    Key verses:

    Revelation 10:7
But in the days when the seventh angel is about to blow his trumpet, the mystery of God is completed, just as he has proclaimed to his servants the prophets.”

    Revelation 11:15
Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying:“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.”

    Revelation 12:9
So that huge dragon – the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world – was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him.

    Revelation 13:18
This calls for wisdom: Let the one who has insight calculate the beast’s number, for it is man’s number, and his number is 666.

    Revelation 14:7
He declared in a loud voice: “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has arrived, and worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water!”

    #360 Revelation 5-9

Day 360 of the podcast, reading Revelation 5-9 NET, read along at:
    https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+5-9/

This is day 360 of our journey.

Today's reading begins to reveal the judgements that will be enacted upon the earth in the end times.  First, John sees a scroll that is sealed with seven seals that only the Lamb who has been slain is worthy to open.  The lamb took the scroll and the heavenly hosts worshiped him over and over, giving him all honor, glory, and praise.  When the lamb opened each seal, a different plague appeared: war, famine, disease, and disasters.  When he came to the seventh seal, there was 30 minutes of silence, then seven angels with seven trumpets appeared and, as each blew his trumpet, even greater plagues came upon the earth to enact judgment on the people for their unwillingness to follow the Lamb of God.

Join me in Revelation 5-9 and worship the Lamb who was slain and is worthy of all honor and praise!

    Key verses:

    Revelation 5:12
all of whom were singing in a loud voice:“Worthy is the lamb who was killed to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and praise!”

    Revelation 6:1
I looked on when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a thunderous voice, “Come!”

    Revelation 7:4
Now I heard the number of those who were marked with the seal, one hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed from all the tribes of the people of Israel:

    Revelation 8:1
Now when the Lamb opened the seventh seal there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

    Revelation 9:12
The first woe has passed, but two woes are still coming after these things!

    #359 Revelation 1-4

Day 359 of the podcast, reading Revelation 1-4 NET, read along at:
    https://netbible.org/bible/Revelation+1-4/

This is day 359 of our journey.

Today we begin the last book of the Bible!  The book of Revelation was written by a Christian elder named John while he was living in exile on the island of Patmos.  He wrote to "the seven churches" as a warning to continue to remain faithful in the face of the hardship that would come at the hand of the Romans and the world at large.  The book is classified as apocalyptic literature, with a visitor from heaven revealing the future and secrets of the unseen world through vivid symbols and imagery.  These symbols are hard to understand, but become more clear when understood in the context of the first-century Christian and when compared to other Biblical imagery.

The book begins with seven messages to the seven churches. John writes of specific issues in those churches and their need to remain faithful to the end, giving each church a promise of what they will receive if they remain faithful.  Today's reading ends in the throne room of God where we are taken up to witness 24 elders and 4 living creatures surround him to proclaim the holiness and glory of Christ!

Join me in Revelation 1-4 and praise the Saviour of the world!

    Key verses:

    Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God – the one who is, and who was, and who is still to come – the All-Powerful!

    Revelation 2:29
The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

    Revelation 3:5
The one who conquers will be dressed like them in white clothing, and I will never erase his name from the book of life, but will declare his name before my Father and before his angels.

    Revelation 4:11
“You are worthy, our Lord and God,to receive glory and honor and power, since you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created!”

A Friend for the Journey

Reading through the Bible in a year can be a challenge that is much easier when you have someone to hold you accountable. This podcast is a great way to reclaim time to be “in the Word” daily while at the gym, in the car, or even on a break at work!
Danny starts each episode by giving a brief “big picture” synopsis of the daily passage and then reads God’s Word in a way that is accessible and easy to follow along with. He has a pleasant voice and the recording quality is good. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a daily Scripture podcast to supplement your quiet time with the Lord!
