Raf's Revolution: Creating a Safe Space for Women in the Restaurant Industry

The restaurant industry is notorious for being highly stressful, extremely competitive, and still primarily dominated by men. Owners of the critically acclaimed Raf's New York, sisters Jennifer and Nicole Vitagliano, along with their female chef partners, have created a safe space that raises women up and challenges the status quo.

Just celebrating their one-year anniversary, Raf's has become an iconic neighborhood restaurant “where everyone wants to come and no one wants to leave." Following a romantic idea of opening an old-world style bakery near Jennifer's first restaurant, Musket Room, Jennifer and Nicole established a female “forever team” to align their values and vision. As they have created a space for each other to be themselves, they have been able to offer grace to each other during stressful circumstances. This has largely translated into the restaurant's vibe and the community they have built around it.

Billion-Dollar Breakthrough: The Journey to Self-Made Success and Breaking Barriers for Female Entrepreneurs with Liz Elting, CEO & Founder of the Liz Elting Foundation

Liz Elting, CEO and Founder of the Elizabeth Elting Foundation, learned at an early age to rely on no one but herself financially. Liz took this advice to heart, founding and building a billion-dollar business from scratch and becoming one of the richest self-made women.

From her NYU dorm room, Liz co-founded TransPerfect, the world's largest language solutions company, at the age of 26. Before getting her first clients, Liz made thousands of calls and wrote thousands of letters. Her road to success was filled with long hours and sacrifices. Although Liz had the highest vision for herself and her company, she experienced many learning curves along the way, including the heartbreaking experience of battling her co-founder in court. Liz is a fierce proponent of raising other female entrepreneurs up and amplifying their voices through her work with her foundation. In her best-selling book Dream Big and Win: Translating Passion into Purpose and Creating a Billion-Dollar Business, she vulnerably recounts her business journey and lessons learned.

The End of an Era: Generosity, Sisterhood, and Navigating Acquisitions with Jamie O’ Banion, CEO & Founder of BeautyBio

“It’s the end of an era, right?” Jamie O’Banion, CEO and Founder of BeautyBio emotionally asks as she reflects on the recent acquisition of her award-winning beauty and skincare company.

While Jamie has come so far from her early entrepreneurial days of building and fundraising, she remains humble, remembering fondly that girl who "didn't know what she didn't know." Jamie grew up on the science side of skincare feeling very comfortable on the research and development side. Still, when she started her own company, intending to educate people on what is actually in their skincare products, she had no idea what she was doing. While she remembers feeling very alone early on, Jamie is now an empathetic supporter of other women founders and helps them rise. As Jamie passes the milestone of having sold her company in a major acquisition, she looks forward to the future growth of the company and remains committed to its success.

Aprons and F-Bombs: The Power of Just Showing Up with Ellen Bennett, Founder of Hedley & Bennett

Enjoy this video podcast on Spotify and Youtube!

Ellen Bennett, founder of Hedley & Bennett, has never followed a conventional path. Guided by optimism, Ellen firmly believes in showing up first and then figuring the rest out later. Deeply honest and known to drop the occasional F-Bomb, Ellen is a leading example that there is not just one path to success in life and business.

After attending culinary school in Mexico City, Ellen returned home to LA. To get professional experience, Ellen busted her way into some of the best kitchens in LA until she eventually became a line cook at a two-star Michelin restaurant. Around the same time, the concept for an apron business began bubbling in her head. It is this concept that ultimately led to the formation of Hedley & Bennett, the leading provider of aprons and kitchenware for top chefs everywhere.  Although Ellen has faced ups and downs along the way, her passion and purpose have inspired her to keep going down the path less traveled. Be sure to use the code “ELLEN20” for a discount at checkout.

From Farm to Fashion: A New Vision for Sustainable Luxury with Vanessa Barboni Hallik, CEO and Founder of Another Tomorrow

According to Vanessa Barboni Hallik, the visionary behind sustainable luxury fashion brand Another Tomorrow, it was all a "beautiful accident."

After taking a sabbatical from her finance career in 2018, Vanessa found herself turning inward, which she now describes as a homecoming journey back to herself and her late mother. Finding no truly sustainable fashion pieces, Vanessa embarked on a journey to start a luxury brand rooted in transparency and care for animal, environmental, and human welfare. Through a farm-to-closet supply chain, Vanessa has developed a new model for sustainable fashion that enables the consumer to connect with the piece's origin story. As she works towards her vision of a better tomorrow, Vanessa looks for patterns of resilience in running a sustainable fashion brand.

Great stories from all different types of women entrepreneurs

Love the breadth of women this show covers and the real stories they discuss about each of their journeys to success and how it affects their lives. Very helpful for a fellow female entrepreneur to hear and imagine it would be great for any woman (or anyone) to hear.

My friend sent me Rebecca’s episode with Bobbi Brown

Betches episode

I’m glad she shared a conversation with these incredible female founders. Although, they recently sold the company, so this seems poorly timed and not fully an accurate depiction of their journey and success.
