Stained Glass Love - EP

Stained Glass Love - EP

Assembled by ex-Death Cab for Cutie member Chris Walla at a songwriting camp just before COVID struck, Telenova quickly proved the value of their unique combination of talents. Pairing singer/lyricist Angeline Armstrong with cinematic multi-instrumentalists Edward Quinn (Slum Sociable) and Joshua Moriarty (Miami Horror), the Melbourne indie-pop trio saw their 2021 singles “Bones” and “Tranquilize” blow up online before they were even able to tour overseas. Their second EP continues to be easy on the ear but rich in tone and texture, with Quinn and Moriarty applying playful programmed percussion and other low-key touches. The daydreamy “Silver Living” crackles like well-loved vinyl, while “Haunted” evokes The Dap-Kings’ neo-vintage soul snap amidst gauzy strings and a swooning chorus. Touching on deeply personal themes of self-destruction and renewal, Armstrong’s lyrics feel all too intimate. Yet when she slides into the self-realizing chorus of “Why Do I Keep You?”, there’s a well-earned swell of hopefulness after so much moody introspection.
