About The Shelton Brothers

One of the most prolific of the "brother duos" of the early country era, Bob and Joe Shelton first entertained locally in Texas in the late 1920s and, together with vocalist Leon Chappelear, recorded for Bluebird Records as the Lone Star Cowboys in 1933, and as backing musicians for Jimmie Davis. The brothers joined Decca Records in '35. Their material varied widely, incorporating love songs (the very popular "Just Because"), humor ("Coupon Song"), and plaintive ballads ("Will There Be Any Cowboys In Heaven?"). Between '35 - 41, they recorded over 120 sides for Decca, and made their last recordings for King Records in 1947. Bob worked solo for some years as a comedian in the Fort Worth area before finally retiring
