About Peaness

Formed in 2014 at the University of Chester, England, this all-female trio perform sprightly, melodic, hook- and harmony-laden indie pop. Comprising Jess Branney on bass, Carleia "Balla" Balbenta on guitar and Rach Williams on drums, all three provide vocals, with Branney usually taking the lead. A year after their live debut, Peaness issued their first E.P -- No Fun -- in 2015, with help from Winter Mute Tapes, leading to national radio airplay. In 2017, the Oxford indie label Alcopop! released their Are You Sure? EP and in 2019 they self-issued "Breakfast," a wry, light-hearted song about Brexit, promoted that month on the first of two 6Music sessions for Marc Riley. From early 2020 onwards, Peaness issued a run of singles -- "Kaizen," "What's the Use," "How I'm Feeling," "Worry" and "irl" -- each of which ultimately appeared on their 2022 debut album, World Full of Worry.
