About Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus

The brainchild of bubblegum pop producers, Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz, the Singing Orchestral Circus was a sprawling aggregation of eight groups on one record: the Ohio Express, the 1910 FruitGum Co. , Music Explosion, Lt. Garcia’s Magic Music Box, Teri Nelson Group, Musical Marching Zoo, JCW Rat Finks and the St. Louis Invisible Marching Band. Together, they were responsible for one of bubblegum’s more memorable moments with the international hit, ‘Quick Joey Small’ in 1968. With an attendant array of acrobats, clowns, fire-eaters and scantily-clad girls, the circus played a concert at Carnegie Hall with a repertoire which included such hits as ‘Yesterday’, ‘We Can Work It Out’, ‘Hey Joe’ and ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’. The prestige of this event did not prevent them from taking their place as one-hit-wonders.
