About Gene Loves Jezebel

Formed by identical twins Jay and Mike Aston, Gene Loves Jezebel enjoyed cult appeal, largely within the U.K. gothic rock community, but achieved greater success in America. After moving to London from Wales, they made their debut in late 1981, mixing almost tribal rhythms with furious guitar work. Their powerful debut album, PROMISE in 1983 was followed by a trip to the U.S. in 1984 to work with John Cale. Two quick-fire singles, "Influenza (Relapse)" and "Shame (Whole Heart Howl)" were followed by a yearlong gap before the release of their sophomore album, IMMIGRANT in June 1985. After skirting the U.K. charts with "Sweetest Thing" they concentrated their efforts on the US market. They achieved this to a degree, scoring a massive college and rock radio hit with the anthemic, hooky "Jealous." After 1993’s ill-fated HEAVENLY BODIES, the band disintegrated.
