About Dynamic Rockers

The Dynamic Rockers were a Dutch rock & roll group influenced by early American rock & roll, but even more so by its overseas disciples, like Cliff Richard & the Shadows and the Spotnicks. The group was led by guitarist/vocalist Henk van Broekhoven, who Anglicized his name as Hank Brooklyn and later adopted the alias John Spencer; his original backing band was formed in 1961 and included rhythm guitarist Gerrit van Steen, bassist Sjef Haans, and drummer Ad Doomen. With guitarist Jan Douwes replacing van Steen in 1962, they signed with the Belgian label Helia and cut several records. Douwes left in 1964, but the group continued on until 1968, when they disbanded. Interest in old time rock & roll led to the group's reunion in 1980, and they recorded albums for Dureco and CNR (the latter in 1981). In the early '90s, the Rarity label released three albums' worth of the group's master tapes, most dating from the 1980-1981 reunion period. Drummer Doonen passed away in 1992. ~ Steve Huey
