About De Strangers

Inspired by Flemish comedian Frans Lamoen, Belgian comedic outfit De Strangers sold millions of records in the '60s and '70s with their unique Antwerp dialect parodies of chart hits. Formed in 1952 by Gust Torfs, Alex Boeye, Pol Bollansee, and John De Wilde, they achieved their biggest success with humorous takes on Dalida's "Gigi L'Amoroso," the Village People's "In the Navy," and George Baker Selection's "Paloma Blanca." Apart from a one-off reunion show in 2006, De Strangers haven't recorded or performed together since 2002, but a joint compilation with similar Flemish band Katastroof did top the charts in 2012. ~ Jon O'Brien
