About Daniel Melingo

Daniel Melingo (commonly known by his last name alone) emerged at the turn of the century as the rogue of tango music. The Buenos Aires native was originally a member of the alternative band Los Abuelos de la Nada, but simultaneously maintained the side project Los Twist, known for a retro-rockabilly sound. His first solo record, a look at tango through creative rock lenses, was 1996's H2O. Over ten years, Melingo gradually reinvented his artistic identity from "alt-rocker interested in tango" to "old-school tanguero gone mad," during which time he released 1999's Tangos Bajos and 2005's Santa Milonga. ~ Evan C.
