About Damita Jo
Raised in Santa Barbara, California, Damita Jo took an interest in singing while still in school. Championed by Los Angeles disc jockey Joe Adams, she made her recording debut for Discovery Records in 1950, cutting the moderately successful sides "Until The Real Thing Comes Along" and "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere." She subsequently joined Steve Gibson And The Red Caps, and had hits with "I’ll Save The Last Dance For You," which sold a million copies in the U.S., and "I’ll Be There," a hit on both the pop and R&B charts. In the '70s, she toured with the Redd Foxx Revue. Damita Jo switched gears to gospel late in her career, penning the song "The Color of Your Skin Makes No Difference."
