About Dalida

French vocalist and actress Dalida, a former Miss Egypt, was discovered while moonlighting as a singer in Paris in 1956. ∙ “Bambino,” her first big hit song, topped the French charts for a world record-setting 39 consecutive weeks—a record that still stands. ∙ In 1958, she set a French record by simultaneously placing 5 singles in the Top 10. ∙ Released in 1975, her single “Gigi l’amoroso” broke the world record for sales—an honor previously held by Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night.” ∙ Dalida’s chart-topping 1976 dance classic, “J’attendrai,” was the first disco hit with French lyrics. ∙ During the French TV special supporting her 1984 album, Dali, she sang in 7 languages and wore more than 40 different outfits. ∙ Her life and career were immortalized in a 2005 French TV miniseries and a 2016 feature film—both titled Dalida.
