About Buddy Tate
One of the greatest and most enduring of the swing-era tenor saxmen, Buddy Tate first made a name for himself, along with trumpeter Buck Clayton, in the Count Basie band during the 1930s. His warm, husky and lustrous sound, mixed with a joyful exuberance, made him a much in-demand player through the following decades. Perhaps his best recorded works as a leader are his collaborations with Clayton, on which they swing like in the days of old and blow the blues for real.
