About Blecaute
Blecaute was a very popular singer/composer of Carnival hits such as his biggest one, the samba "General da Banda" (Tancredo Silva/Sátiro de Mello/José Alcides), in the Carnival of 1949. Among his successes are "O Pedreiro Valdemar" (Wilson Batista/Roberto Martins, 1949), "Papai Adão" (Armando Cavalcanti/Klecius Caldas, 1951), "Maria Candelária" (Armando Cavalcanti/Klecius Caldas, 1952), "Piada de Salão" (Armando Cavalcanti/Klecius Caldas, 1954), "Maria Escandalosa" (Armando Cavalcanti/Klecius Caldas, 1955), "Chora, Doutor" (J. Piedade/Orlando Guzzano/J. Campos, 1959), "Samba do Iê- Iê- Iê" (Estanislau Silva/William Duba/Rosa de Oliveira, 1963), "Quero Morrer no Rio" (1965), "Bloco de Banana" (Blecaute, 1969) and "Teresinha Copa 70" (Marli de Oliveira/Gatinho). He debuted as a singer in 1933 at Rádio Tupi. In 1941, he was hired by Rádio Difusora and adopted the stage name Black-Out, which is adapted to Portuguese as Blecaute. Between 1942 and 1943 he performed in the Carioca radios Tamoio, Mauá, and Nacional. The first album was recorded in 1944, the year in which he sang in the film Tristezas Não Pagam Dívidas. ~ Alvaro Neder
