Australia's Birthday Party may have burned quickly and brightly, but their twisted, arty take on garage rock has lasted a long time. Stitched together from performances in London and Bremen, Germany, Live 1981-1982 shows the band in all their feral glory. Nick Cave's spastic blues-punk balladeering gels beautifully with Rowland S. Howard's squalling guitars on an unhinged version of the goth hit "Release the Bats," as well as undulating takes of "Nick the Stripper" and "King Ink," which tap into the band’s primal sexual energy.
