Inhaler shows that rock swagger comes naturally on “We Have to Move On.” But the Irish four-piece has certainly been studying hard. “The late ’70s and pretty much all of the ’80s are a big thing for us,” frontman Elijah Hewson tells Apple Music. “We love Joy Division, The Stone Roses, Depeche Mode, and The Smiths—and then our favorite band as a collective is The Strokes.” But they also look to the future here. “The lyrics came from the sound of the song, which felt a bit scary,” Hewson explains. "It’s a bit sinister, and the words were written about letting go of old traditions and forgetting about the past. It's irrelevant.” Hewson met bandmates Josh Jenkinson (guitar), Rob Keating (bass), and Ryan McMahon (drums) at school in Dublin, but also had inspiration at home from his father: Bono. “I hated music for a while, actually,” he recalls of his childhood with a U2 dad. “Then I learned the solo on 'Stairway to Heaven' and I wanted to be in a band, thanks to Led Zeppelin. The main piece of advice my dad’s given us is how much underwear to bring on tour. And that's really it.”
