Smooth melodies, insistent beats, and rousing chorus hooks lie at the heart of Manic Drive’s fifth album. The final and most crucial component to the sound is the Ontario trio’s Christian faith, reflected in positive lyrics that emphasize love and redemption rather than fire and brimstone. The band take a definite dance-pop tack here, with the chant-along “Good News,” the string-accented “Indestructible,” and the discofied “Rhythm” among the standouts in this consistently upbeat set. Thousand Foot Krutch’s Trevor McNevan and Group 1 Crew’s Manwell Reyes add some rap energy to “Electricity” and the title track, respectively. VIP is worship music you can groove to.
