AM Country Heaven

AM Country Heaven

Making good on its title, AM Country Heaven often resonates with bygone tones and production, making for tunes that are just as nostalgic as Jason Eady’s lyrics. The Fort Worth, Texas–based bard muses on his trusty six-string in “Old Guitar and Me,” which sounds a lot like '70s outlaw country, with an old Telecaster picking and bending through swampy-sounding vintage phaser effects. With pedal steel added, “Wishful Drinking” is a weepy and timeless-sounding honky-tonker that seems like it was mixed with Merle Haggard’s signature '70s MCA sound in mind. Patty Loveless lends her silky vocals to the bouncy “Man on a Mountain” and the traditionally twangy “Paying My Dues” before “Sober on the Weekends” picks up the pace with a rowdy roadhouse feel that would warrant a chickenwire-fenced stage were the song played in a truly old-timey live setting. The closer is the sweet country-gospel weeper “Water into Wine."
