Dub I

Dub I

Originally released in a limited pressing on the tiny Micron Label in the mid ‘70s Dub I features producer Jimmy Radway helming a set of masterfully mixed instrumental dubs of songs made famous by Jamaican artists like Big Youth, Leroy Smart, and others, and includes contributions from some of the finest Jamaican instrumentalists of the era. The English imprint Pressure Sounds have done Reggae fanatics an enormous favor by bringing this much sought after rarity back into print. Though it was heard by few at the time of its original release, the primal rhythms and skillful mixing of tracks like “Cinderella,” a thunderous dub of Errol Dunkley’s “Black Cinderella,” and “Mother Liza,” a version of Leroy Smart’s hit of the same name, are easily on par with the more heralded productions of contemporary dub masterminds like King Tubby and Lee Perry.
