While solidifying his rep as the reigning boogaloo mastermind of the late ‘60s, Ray Barretto steps into disco territory with 1977’s swanky Can You Feel It. The opening title track commands listeners to surrender to the groove with its supple, funky basslines and sparkly, jazzy guitar strums. “I Think About You” is so intensely smooth—with a sultry, soulful edge—it could’ve been penned by Bobby Caldwell. Yet Barretto stays true to his Latin roots on the closer, “Confrontation,” a zesty banger powered by frenetic Caribbean drumming.
