Arkeology

Arkeology

Welcome to World Party's alternate reality. Arkeology features 70 tracks of new songs, rare studio tracks, concert recordings, radio interviews, covers, demos, and b-sides. It's an absolute feast for fans and an unusual but worthy place for newbies to immerse themselves in one of pop music's most versatile bands. Karl Wallinger is a known aficionado of '60s pop, and that love is in evidence in the way he writes and produces his tunes. "Nothing Lasts Forever" adds George Harrison–like slide guitar to a hazy falsetto that grazes in the grass. "Waiting Such a Long Time" kicks up for a piano-based rocker. "She's the One" takes its heartfelt, nostalgic vibe to a live audience. The live version of World Party's hit "Ship of Fools" includes a spirited audience sing-along. The group's covers (interpretations of Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Sweetheart Like You," The Beatles' "Dear Prudence," "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," "Fixing a Hole," and "Cry Baby Cry," and Sly & The Family Stone's "Stand") are intricate re-creations. They illustrate the band's ability to comfortably infiltrate a variety of styles and come out with something equally beautiful.
