Unpolished

Unpolished

Repping for the Anacostia neighborhood in southeast Washington, D.C., Slade is a young rapper hoping to make a name for himself and stand out from the millions of other struggling, hopeful emcees equipped with a laptop and a dream. While technically his third album, Unpolished is both a solid step forward and an honest title, thanks to the rough edges. At times the uneasiness actually helps, with random leftfield rhymes (especially on "The Introduction") that bring some humor to the table. For the most part, it's about threats of violence ("Yall Dont Want It Boy") and proclamations of greatness ("Lyrical King"). Of the tracks on display here, "Risen" and "Power to the People" are standouts.
