On Quebec trio Madame's second album, singer Michel Gatignol lambastes late-'80s consumerism over choppy rhythm guitars, splashes of synthesizer, and martial drumbeats. Listeners will come for the hooks and stay for Gatignol's bouncy-baritone takes on desire, ambition, and greed. Jangly guitars and a pulse reminiscent of Devo propel "Propriétaire"; a wordless chorus sweetens the cradle-to-grave phoniness depicted in the title track; and on "Riche," anxious, minor-key guitar riffs make getting "riche, riche, riche" sound about as appealing as a root canal. Mission accomplished.
