Newsboys - Houston We Are Go (Live)

Touring has been a mainstay for the Newsboys since their inception twenty years ago. It’s high time, then, that this durable Christian combo added a live album to their catalogue. Released in tandem with a DVD, the album captures the Australian-rooted group in all its playful (and prayerful) glory at a Houston gig. The set list is primarily drawn from the Boys’ GO album, highlighting such reverent rave-ups as “The Mission,” “Something Beautiful,” and “I Am Free.” The band glides through older favorites like “Shine” and “Entertaining Angels” with unflagging verve, keeping the beat smoothly propulsive. “Breakfast” harkens back to their lighthearted early days, while their cover of Matt Redman’s “Blessed Be Your Name” provides an unabashed moment of worship. Front man Peter Furler’s good-humored retelling of the Boys’ scruffy beginnings frames a snappy medley of such hits as “Not Ashamed” and “Love Liberty Disco.” Houston We Are GO may not feature all of the band’s best tunes, but stands out as a galvanizing live exercise all the same.
