Murderology - EP

On the surface, the idea of a folk-metal hybrid might seem silly, with the styles being nearly polar opposites. Yet Los Angeles' Yard of Blondes do a nifty job at slamming the disparate genres into one another. Essentially, the songs are based in the tradition of folk and blues murder ballads from the 19th and early 20th centuries; then the music is let loose to traverse the spectrum, from the sweet harmonies of "Sailor" backed by cascading drumrolls and psychedelic twists to the Queens of the Stone Age desert-stoner rock of "Requiem for a Lover." Leader Vincent W. Jacob (a French songwriter and author) hooked up with keyboardist Fanny Hill (a fellow French musician) in L.A.; together they pieced together this unlikely match. The EP was recorded with Julian David at Firewater Studios, where the likes of Korn and Slipknot have graced the grounds.
