Role Model

Role Model

Instead of harping on the inconveniences he’s endured—the Memphis MC has been shot and shot at, releasing projects with nose-thumbing titles like Bulletproof and N*ggas Get Shot Everyday—Young Dolph is focused on being an example for others looking to overcome rough origin stories. He wastes no time detailing the specifics of his own on Role Model’s opener, “Black Queen,” an ode to his parents’ resilience (and an acknowledgment of their shortcomings). On the whole, Role Model is a celebration of life lived contentedly, boasting brand-appropriate features from longtime weed enthusiast Snoop Dogg (“I Think I Can Fly”) and Migos member Offset (“Break the Bank”). But it’s “How U Luv Dat” that best exemplifies how, as someone whose success grows with each release, Dolph is proudest that he is simply still around to enjoy it.
