Mau5trap, the progressive Canadian electronic music label founded by DJ/producer deadmau5, presents its best releases of the year. The package includes two deadmau5 originals–the thrilling ‘80s-inspired mind-bender “Polaris” and a rerelease of “Long Walk Off a Short Pier” from his earlier catalog–but as usual, the spotlight is on fresh talent. Don’t miss REZZ, a rising bass music producer from Ontario who builds dark, industrial worlds out of hypnotic chants and rhythmic squeaks (“Relax”), or ATTLAS, a Toronto artist with three magnificently diverse tracks here (“Frost,” a feel-good flurry of staccato synths and chunky piano chords, is nothing short of beautiful).
