The Last Concert (25th Anniversary Edition) [Live]

Roy Orbison died on Dec. 6, 1988. This concert took place on Dec. 4, 1988—just two days before he passed away. As always with his shows, Roy sang his greatest hits and left the audience satisfied with a professional performance; he was a consummate pro who had enough natural talent to make everything look and sound easy. This Akron, Ohio, concert is a worthy final clip. Here, Orbison’s voice can still hit the notes it needs to hit in the challenging “Only the Lonely,” and his band and backing vocalists apply their professionalism and care to every song. “Dream Baby,” “In Dreams,” “Crying,” “Ooby Dooby,” “Lana," and “Oh, Pretty Woman” get the final send-offs they deserve. That Roy enjoyed a later-in-life resurgence is fitting for a man known to be a sweet person and understated genius.
