Great Divide

Great Divide

The Scottish four-piece uncover newfound dynamics on their third record. The heavy assaults of Free are in fine fettle on “Fall Into the Party” and “I Am an Animal,” while “Be A Kid” screams towards a piercing climax. But there's restraint on “Heart and Soul,” evoking Nashville rather than Glasgow, and a lighters-aloft moment on “Rest In Pieces.” Sam McTrusty exposes his anxious side, too: On “The Ones That I Love,” he worries “the youth of today have lost their voice,” while he pleads, “are you still out there?” on the contemplative “Brothers and Sisters.”
