Directo al Corazón

Directo al Corazón

A fixture of La Arrolladora Banda el Limón de René Camacho for much of its existence, Jorge Medina’s voice carried many of their finest tunes. His departure from the enduringly popular Sinaloa group after a tenure spanning two decades thankfully hasn’t slowed or diminished his creative energies in the slightest, as made clear by his 2018 solo debut Así O Más Claro and its similarly exquisite follow-up. Very much in line with the title, much of Directo al Corazón gushes with sincerity, from the lovestruck declarations of “Porque Tú Llegaste” to the bittersweet goodbyes of “Déjame.” Amid the romantic balladry and banda grandeur, Medina presents a few surprises, most notably a delightful rendition of Chico Che’s “¿Quén Pompó?” that’s somehow peppier than the original.
