Reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry held a particular fascination with old cowboy movies, but High Plains Drifter—a crucial compilation of various 45s produced between 1968 and 1973—finds Perry actually drifting about like a gun for hire. No longer working for Joe Gibbs, Scratch cut sessions that range wildly, such as the clip-clopping title track, the steel-pan-kissed “What a Botheration,” and the sweet, soulful “Don’t Want to Lose You.”
