Joss Stone was barely legal to drive to the studio when she began recording these '60s soul gems. It turned out she was a natural. With her energetic, smoky voice, she boils the originals down to an essential groove, even turning the one outlier, The White Stripes' "Fell in Love With a Girl," into a smooth funk jam with the help of Questlove. The singer saves her best work, though, for the closer, a patient, nearly a cappella take on "For the Love of You.”
