By their fifth album, El Trono de Mexico were already enjoying royalty status among duranguense lovers stateside. But with this synth-coated collection of danceable, tuba-happy numbers, the North Carolina-bred sextet made its signature polka-like pep indispensable to block parties on both sides of the border. Vocalist Everardo Marcelino Avila’s boyish timbre adds a youthful innocence to romantic numbers like “Por Amor a Ti” and “Sin Lugar a Dudas.” Meanwhile, songs like “Lo Dijo el Corazón” introduce steel drums, stretching the genre’s boundaries to unexpected places.
