In addition to their arena-thumping classics, Kiss Box Set contains many rarities that shed light on the band’s early years. The original “She,” recorded with Wicked Lester in 1971, finds Paul and Gene working with psychedelic harmonies and Latin horns, and the demo of “God of Thunder” reveals that the sinister metal landmark started out as funk-driven glam. The previously unreleased “Love Is Blind,” built from folky guitars and Beatles-style melodies, suggests that Kiss should’ve released an album of pure pop.
