Publishers Weekly, Starred Review: "Simply adorable doesn't begin to describe this charming contemporary romance..."
Jack Trehan is young, rich, and reluctantly retired from his first love, major league baseball. Keely McBride is young, not so rich, and fired rather than retired from her first love, being a big city interior designer.
Do opposites attract? Not so much... but when forced together for the sake of a child whose biggest problem might be that her vanishing mamma named her Magenta Moon, add in an eccentric aunt, a wanna-be mobster, a chameleon-like babysitter, a nosy social worker and, ah, more than a dash of unexpected romantic attraction, and you have a pot overflowing with love and laughter.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Simply adorable doesn't begin to describe this charming contemporary romance, the first of two books by Michaels (Someone to Love;etc.) about twin brothers Jack and Tim Trehan. Injured and retired from his baseball career at the age of 28, Jack spends his time these days endorsing products and drifting around the mansion he's never gotten around to furnishing. When his Aunt Sadie hires a decorator, Jack is all for it, especially when the pretty decorator shows up shortly after his hippie cousin leaves her infant daughter, Magenta Moon, on his doorstep and departs for Katmandu. Interior designer Keely McBride is desperate for a job and figures the commission from decorating Jack's swank suburban digs will provide the funds she needs to open her own business back in Manhattan. She'll do anything to remain employed, including caring for Jack's niece. Complications set in when Magenta Moon's mobster wannabe uncle decides he wants custody and Keely and Jack pretend to be engaged to throw off a social worker. Lively banter and imaginative characters such as Petra, the precocious baby sitter; Sweetness, the boxer paid to throw fights; and wacky Aunt Sadie, who decorates her home with plastic oddities come together to make this witty, whirlwind narrative a delight.

One of the funniest books I’ve read in ages. Loved it
You’ll need to re-read parts
The plot was interesting but the first chapter was a bit much…nicknames, an odd ball cousin who didn’t make sense. For me, it was too much going on and it didn’t hold my interest. I found myself skipping pages.
Letting go of your dreams
Loved Jack and Keely. Giving up on a dream is hard to do. Jack figured it out before Keely and that’s alright. Liked the secondary characters as well. Sadie was a delight as she let her hair down as she got older and didn’t want to be a shriveled old prune of a women. As for Petra she does have a long way to go before finally finding her stride. Hopefully the Moretti family they belong in orange prison garb and will get their just desserts. Can’t wait to read the next book about Tim Trehan Jack’s twin and how he gets his HEA.
