Draft Day (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

It’s easy to imagine the triumphant music of a Super Bowl victory. But what does the NFL’s Draft Day sound like? That was the challenge facing California-born composer John Debney in scoring this Kevin Costner star vehicle for director/producer Ivan Reitman. “There is a ticking clock sense,” explains Debney of his music for the film, “since the story takes place in a 24-hour period. There is always a sense of pulse and time.” The composer also credits Reitman’s “intensive, but incredibly stimulating” collaboration in helping forge a forceful, confident soundtrack that’s a “very contemporary take, blending techno, hip-hop, and synth with the orchestra: a blending of styles for a guitar-driven score. It is one of my most interesting scores to date.”
