Bridesmaids (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Producer Judd Apatow and director Paul Feig have always had a knack for enhancing their silver screen side-splitters with appropriate soundtracks. The songs selected for the 2011 extreme chick-flick Bridesmaids is no exception, starting with a re-mastered single edit of Wilson Phillips’ 1990 household hit “Hold On,” which the trio actually performed in the film. But the grittier side of the ‘90s is also well represented with the angst-ridden grrrl grunge of Hole’s “Violet.” Blondie’s “Rip Her to Shreds” also gets the re-mastered treatment (you can really hear those Farfisa organ notes) to help emphasize the catty tension between contrasting personalities of the bridesmaids before Nouvelle Vague covers Violent Femme’s 1983 hit “Blister In the Sun,” half-sung in French lyrics. Britney Spears keeps things sounding fresh with the playful “I’ve Just Begun (Having My Fun)” which nicely balances the following soul stomper, “My Love Is Your Love” by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.
