Girls, Vol. 1 (Music from the HBO Original Series) [Deluxe Version]

Since the HBO series Girls is about the close friendships of four young women and their New York City experiences, it's inevitably been compared to Sex in the City. But as the characters are younger and the show is made during the self-conscious era of hipsters, skinny jeans, and artisanal coffee shops, it makes sense that the first season’s soundtrack is noticeably hipper than anything that ever scored Sex in the City. Just the fact that you can’t find Fun.’s “Sight of the Sun” anywhere but on this soundtrack exemplifies how cool this compilation is. Other exclusive tracks include Santigold’s club-friendly title track and Grouplove’s spirited party anthem “Everyone’s Gonna Get High.” Where other tunes like Sleigh Bells’ scratchy “Infinity Guitars” and The Vaccines' energetic post-punk gem “Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra)” rock like Hannah and her friends spending a Thursday night in Brooklyn, more somber songs like Belle & Sebastian’s “I Don’t Love Anyone” and Fleet Foxes' wintry “Montezuma” resonate like a playlist for a Hamptons weekender.
